Geography Lesson

I'm so naive.  I guess in part, I have avoided it.  Yesterday, as I was organizing, I ran across a map of the U.S.   I stared in awe... oddly... as if it had never occurred to me before this moment.

I know I'm far away here, but suddenly looking at it this way seemed really far.  Could it be because this was the week (and they come with little warning)... the one in which so many moments were spent missing you? Something drew me into the stare, perhaps because I haven't really purposed to study the map since we moved.  I giggled at how struck I was by the distance.

The kids have recently been challenged by Grandma to learn the fifty states. For every one they remember on a written test, they'll have the opportunity to earn a dollar.  Not a bad deal, I say. I'm reminded that I took that very test in high school, and quite honestly I'm curious as to what my brain has retained.

What I know for sure... as I stared today, all I remember seeing was Ohio and California and the many miles between them.  Not real confident, if given the chance, I would reap a great reward (not that this challenge is an option for parents!).

I'll have to try, none the less!

Give me a call. My kids know the song "50, Nifty, United States". . .not only all the states, but in alphabetical order too. We will teach it to you!
